Well, the Easter bunny has hopped off carrying the shattered remains of his undelivered Easter eggs and hopefully, some of us remembered the real reason we celebrate Easter.
But in the midst of all this chocolatey loveliness, an author must write and hope that what she writes will touch lives and entertain the readers. And there's surely no more exciting moment in a writer's life (apart from Stephen Spielberg wanting to turn your book into a movie, of course) than when the first proof copy of a new books arrives with Kev the postman. Today Insurrection, the final book in the Blue Dust Trilogy, arrived. It's such a thrill seeing my words in print, though it's been out on kindle for a while now. The first reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, which is a huge relief.
Blue Dust has been part of my life for the last five years or so and it's really sad to have finished it. Saying goodbye to Qea, Adam and Balzar is sad, like saying goodbye to family after a long anticipated visit. However, the books in my head that have been clamouring to be written can now begin. I've had a new book commission for an exciting project and will be appearing at the Thornbury Arts Festival on 20 April to run a workshop for children and alter in the year will be going to Bampton Blest Fest - the village used as the set for Downton Abbey - I feel so blessed to have been invited.
I've been visiting schools all over the country this past month, which is exhausting, but invigorating all at the same time. I love meeting children in schools, hearing what they enjoy reading and reading some of their writing. I've seen some amazingly talented writers who I really hope will go on to be the authors of the future. If you'd like me to visit your school or club or society, please get in touch.
Now back to work.
